LSU BEAT TEXAS SOUTHERN BY RECORD 109-POINT MARGIN
LSU beat Texas Southern 131-22 on Thursday at the Pete Maravich Assembly Centre in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. ESPN Insights identified the 109-point margin as the largest in NCAA women’s basketball history between two Division I opponents. LSU surpassed the previous benchmark of 108 points, which Kim Mulkey’s Baylor team established with a 140-32 victory on 15 December 2016. The result also broke LSU’s own winning-margin record, which the team had set with a 94-point victory over Southeastern Louisiana in Monday’s season opener.
The game’s scoring totals show LSU won the second quarter 40-0, forcing nine turnovers while Texas Southern missed all 13 field-goal attempts. Jada Williams scored 16 of her 18 points during that quarter, making six of seven shots, including three three-pointers. Anna Minaeva led LSU’s seven double-figure scorers with 21 points, followed by Mikaylah Williams with 20 and ZaKiyah Johnson with 17. Texas Southern’s recorded shooting figures differ, ranging from 13% to 14.5%, while the turnover total stands at 38, producing a 55-0 advantage for LSU in points from turnovers.
LSU’s season record moved to 2-0, with the team scoring more than 100 points in both games, while Texas Southern fell to 0-2. The head-to-head record now gives LSU seven wins from seven meetings with Texas Southern. LSU presented flowers to Angel Reese, who attended after helping the team win its first national championship in 2023. Jada Williams said afterwards: “Honestly, this is the best team I ever played on.”
