ALLAN GRIMSON RECEIVES FURTHER 22 YEARS FOR SEXUAL ASSAULTS
Winchester Crown Court has sentenced former Royal Navy petty officer Allan Grimson to a further 22 years in prison for sexually assaulting four victims in the 1990s. Grimson, who already serves a life sentence for two murders, received the additional sentence on 6 November. His July convictions concerned assaults on three young men in the Navy and a 14-year-old boy. The offences took place at his flat in Portsmouth, where he also murdered Nicholas Wright and Sion Jenkins.
Grimson received his life sentence in 2001 for killing Wright and Jenkins after luring them to the flat. He murdered Wright on 12 December 1997 and Jenkins exactly a year later. Both victims had rejected his advances before he killed them. At the sentencing for the sexual offences, Judge Paul Dugdale linked his assessment of Grimson’s dangerousness to those murder convictions and the similarities between the offences.
Dugdale told Grimson: “It won't surprise anyone to know I have made a finding of dangerousness.” The judge made that finding under section 308 of the Sentencing Act. He assessed Grimson as continuing to pose a significant risk of serious harm to members of the public. Dugdale also identified a link between Grimson’s sexual assaults and an urge to inflict serious violence, saying he would always pose an underlying risk to the public.
