ASSAILANT STABS BANK TELLER ON BROOKLYN PROMENADE RUN

MON 02 NOV 2026

An assailant stabbed TD Bank teller Katie Suarez twice in the neck during a Friday night run in Brooklyn, New York City. The attacker struck her just after 8pm near Bay 17th Street and Shore Parkway on the Bath Beach promenade. Her father found her in a grassy area beside blood stains on a railing and concrete path. Emergency crews took Suarez to Langone Hospital. Accounts of her condition differ, describing her as either in a coma or brain dead on life support.

Suarez was training for Sunday's New York City Marathon along a waterfront route popular with walkers, bikers and fishermen. Police stated that she met her mother around 6.30pm near the shopping plaza TD Bank where she worked, following a family tradition. She changed into running gear and gave her work clothes to her mother before running alone while her father ran behind schedule. Suarez told her parents by phone moments before the assault that she was a five-minute jog from their arranged meeting point. Neighbours described Suarez as "very kind" and having a "very good character".

The New York City Police Department treats the stabbing as an apparently random assault and has made no arrests. Officers have asked the public for help with the investigation. A police spokesperson said: "NYPD taking this very seriously and have many of our speciality teams out last night and all of today, including scuba, aviation, K9s, and drones." The New York City Marathon organiser said: "We were sad to hear of this horrible attack—our hearts are with her family and the running community."
