BONNIE TYLER'S HUSBAND SPEAKS OUT AS FINAL SONG SET FOR RELEASE
Bonnie Tyler's husband, Robert Sullivan, said it has been "a heartbreaking year" and that he misses her "every single day" since her death in July. Tyler, born Gaynor Hopkins, died at a hospital in Portugal following emergency intestinal surgery. Her final studio recording, "Love, Light and Peace", will be released as a Christmas single on 13 November. Accounts differ on how long they were married, citing figures of 50 and 53 years. "Gaynor never stopped working. She loved singing, she loved her fans, and she poured her whole heart into these songs," Sullivan said.
The song was written by Chrissie Hammond and Terry Britten, a 2026 Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee, and produced by Britten with David Mackay. Britten first played guitar on Tyler's 1977 debut album, The World Starts Tonight, and returns nearly 50 years later as writer and producer of her last song. Sullivan said Tyler's only time off came during the Covid pandemic, when she still gave interviews over Zoom. "I know she would want people to hear them, and I am so proud of everything she left behind," he said. Accounts of Tyler's birthplace differ, with one placing it in Mumbles and another in a council house in Neath.
Talent scout Roger Bell discovered Tyler in a Swansea club, and she recorded "Total Eclipse of the Heart" during a career spanning 50 years. After her recording contract ended, she continued self-releasing music, including "Yes I Can" in January 2025 and "Only Love" in March 2026. In August, fans lined the streets of Swansea for a celebration of life service at Swansea Minster. A mural commemorating Tyler has also begun to take shape in Skewen Park.
