CHRIS BROWN FACES SENTENCING OVER LONDON NIGHTCLUB AFFRAY

MON 26 OCT 2026 CRIME

Chris Brown arrived at Southwark Crown Court in London on Monday for sentencing after pleading guilty to affray over an attack on music producer Abraham Diaw. Brown wore a mask as fans screamed while he entered the court. The charge concerns a February 2023 confrontation at Tape nightclub in Mayfair, where Brown struck Diaw on the head with a bottle. Brown entered his guilty plea in July. His friend and vocal coach Omololu Akinlolu also pleaded guilty to affray and faces sentencing.

Prosecutors said surveillance cameras recorded the fight in front of people at the nightclub. Brown had previously denied attacking Diaw with a bottle. Following his guilty plea, prosecutors dropped charges of assault, attempting to cause grievous bodily harm and having a bottle as an offensive weapon. Brown left the UK after the fight and faced arrest at a Manchester hotel when he returned for a concert in May 2025. A £5 million bail arrangement allowed him to tour Europe and North America during summer 2025.

The affray charge carries a maximum prison sentence of three years. Brown secured bail again on Friday ahead of sentencing on 26 October. He won Grammy awards for best R&B album for “F.A.M.E.” in 2011 and “11:11 (Deluxe)” in 2025. In 2009, a court convicted Brown of assaulting Rihanna, who was then his girlfriend. French authorities arrested Brown in Paris in 2019 and questioned him on suspicion of rape before releasing him without charge.
