NEWCASTLE UNITED BEAT CRYSTAL PALACE AT SELHURST PARK
Newcastle United beat Crystal Palace 2-0 at Selhurst Park on Sunday, with William Osula and Harvey Barnes scoring after half-time. Osula opened the scoring two minutes into the second half when he met a cross from Jacob Murphy. Barnes doubled Newcastle’s lead in the 58th minute after Amar Dedić played the ball across the penalty area. The defeat extended Palace’s winless run to four matches and left them one point outside the Premier League relegation zone.
Palace created the first chances, with an early effort nearly deflecting into Newcastle’s net off Dan Burn before Daichi Kamada shot narrowly wide. Dwight McNeil also sent a ball across the Newcastle goal, but no Palace player reached it. The first half produced few shots on target. Joe Willock put the ball in Palace’s net shortly after Osula scored, but a video review ruled him offside. Nico Gonzalez then won the ball from Adam Wharton and passed to Dedić in the move that led to Barnes’s goal.
Newcastle recorded their first win at Selhurst Park in almost six years. Pierre Sage replaced Mateta and McNeil with Eddie Nketiah and Darío Osorio as Palace tried to respond. Osorio came close to his first Palace goal with a strike that Lukás Hornícek tipped around the post. Spectators began leaving the home end as officials signalled six minutes of added time.
