JAMIE RITCHIE SEEKS SCOTLAND RECALL AFTER GLASGOW DEBUT
Jamie Ritchie said he wants a Scotland recall after making his Glasgow Warriors debut in a 24-20 win over Benetton on Saturday. Ritchie played the full 80 minutes at blindside flank in Treviso following eight months of ankle and Achilles tendon problems. Glasgow recovered from a 17-point deficit before Jare Oguntibeju scored the late try that secured victory. The match gave Ritchie his first minutes for Warriors since his summer move from Perpignan.
Ritchie spent one season with Perpignan in France after leaving Edinburgh. He has won 63 Scotland caps and previously captained the national side. Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend is due to name his postponed Nations Championship squad on Monday. Other back-row options include Gregor Brown, Liam McConnell, Freddy Douglas, Rory Darge, Matt Fagerson, Jack Dempsey, Magnus Bradbury and Josh Bayliss.
Scotland are due to host New Zealand's All Blacks in Edinburgh this autumn, before Australia and Japan visit Murrayfield. Ritchie said he could control how he plays and trains while awaiting Townsend's decision. “Gregor knows what he will get from me if he decides to pick me,” Ritchie said. He said he would “love to be back involved” and acknowledged that competition for places had grown since he was a regular starter.
