RASHEE RICE FILES FOR BANKRUPTCY WITH DEBTS EXCEEDING $3.45 MILLION
Kansas City Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice filed for federal bankruptcy protection on Wednesday, declaring debts exceeding $3.45 million, according to court records. He submitted the filing in the Northern District of Texas bankruptcy court. Rice listed $677,054 in personal assets, putting his declared liabilities above his disclosed holdings. The filing linked at least $2.1 million of his debts to civil litigation, including claims arising from a 2024 car crash.
In March 2024, Rice drove his Lamborghini Urus at 119mph before striking an expressway’s central reservation and causing a collision involving four other vehicles. He subsequently missed the first six games of the 2025 season through suspension. Kathryn Kuykendall, a passenger in an Uber struck by Rice’s vehicle, agreed a $1 million civil settlement with him in April 2025. Her solicitor, Marc Lenahan, said Rice failed to make the first payment: “As the first payment came due, we got the call that Rashee wasn’t going to be able to pay.”
Rice also faces a lawsuit that his former girlfriend, Dacoda Jones, filed in February 2026 seeking $1 million. Jones alleged that he assaulted her repeatedly over a year and a half, causing bruising and bleeding. His bankruptcy application seeks protection while he remains in the final year of his four-year, $6.45 million rookie contract with the Kansas City Chiefs. Rice has yet to secure a second contract and is due to become a free agent in March.
