TRUMP SAYS UKRAINE AGREEMENT COULD INVOLVE ALL OF EUROPE
US President Donald Trump said a proposed agreement on Ukraine could involve all of Europe, without disclosing its terms. Speaking in the Oval Office, he said: “There’s going to be an agreement. It’s going to be a big agreement, and it’s going to involve more than Ukraine.” Trump said he thought Russia and Ukraine were close to a settlement. He declined to explain what he had discussed with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, whom he had met.
Representatives from Russia and Ukraine attended a White House event recognising Melania Trump’s role in brokering a six-day ceasefire in Oleshky, a Ukrainian city under Russian occupation. Melania Trump brought the representatives together for the face-to-face meeting. Trump said he had not met the Ukrainian representatives. Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine in 2022, and the war has entered its fifth year.
Trump has pressed the Ukrainian government led by Volodymyr Zelensky to reach a peace agreement with Moscow. He has waived sanctions against the Kremlin and called for Zelensky’s replacement, portraying him as an obstacle to peace. His comments followed midterm elections in which the Republican Party lost control of Congress. Trump made the remarks after signing an executive order designating the Oval Office a national monument, requiring congressional approval for physical changes to the room.
