THOMAS COY JAILED 40 YEARS FOR KILLING AMAZON DRIVER JASMINE TAYLOR
Thomas Coy has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for the murder of Amazon delivery driver Jasmine Taylor, according to court documents. Coy pleaded guilty in September to second-degree murder and armed criminal action. The killing happened on 5 February 2025 on Lawrence County Road 2152, about 40 miles west of Springfield, Missouri. Police said Coy opened fire on Taylor's delivery van as it approached his driveway, causing it to crash into a fence at around 4pm. Coy then dragged Taylor from the van and left her in a ditch while she was still alive. She died in hospital on 9 February, four days later.
Local police said Coy saw Taylor's van approaching, went inside to retrieve a weapon, then waited for her to pass before shooting. Footage supplied by Amazon showed Taylor slumped over the steering wheel as the van arrived at the scene. Authorities said they did not realise she had been shot until doctors confirmed a gunshot wound to her head hours later. Coy was arrested the next day and initially charged with assault, a charge later upgraded to first-degree murder before his guilty plea in September.
A local sheriff described the killing as without explanation, saying: "It's just really sad because there is no sense to what occurred whatsoever. It's very emotional because of the senselessness of what occurred. It just makes no sense why someone could be so angry to do something like this." Authorities have not disclosed a motive. Neighbours told the local outlet KZRG that Coy had often complained about the speed of delivery vehicles on the road. The sentence closes the case more than nine months after Taylor's death.
