DUKE AND DUCHESS OF SUSSEX TO SPEAK AT BRUSSELS MEMORIAL EVENT

THU 05 NOV 2026 INTERNATIONAL

Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, will give a joint address in Brussels next week at the opening of the Lost Screen Memorial outside the European Parliament. Scheduled for Tuesday, it will be their first joint public appearance since allegations emerged concerning Meghan's father, Thomas Markle Snr. The couple will speak for between 15 and 20 minutes on children's digital safety. The memorial commemorates children who died as a result of harm linked to social media. European Parliament president Roberta Metsola and MEP Antonio Lopez-Isturiz are due to speak before them.

The Philippine National Police said videos of alleged child sexual abuse were found in boxes belonging to Thomas Markle Snr, after his son, Thomas Markle Jnr, reported the discovery to police and the FBI. Major General Wilson Asueta of the force said ownership of the devices had yet to be confirmed. Thomas Markle Snr, now in a dementia care home in the US, has admitted paying for sex in the Philippines but denied possessing child abuse imagery. Meghan said she was "deeply distressed" by the allegations, and has been estranged from her father since the run-up to her 2018 wedding.

Harry is expected to join a panel discussion on protecting children online, with audience questions permitted but not the media. The event follows earlier memorial installations the couple opened in New York City in 2025 and in Geneva in May. Meghan, who has two young children, moved back to the UK with Harry in August. At the Geneva opening, she said the memorial represented children, "not statistics" or "data points." She asked how many more children would be harmed by products "designed without sufficient safeguards."
