CHILD FOUND DEAD AT MUNICH HOTEL NEXT TO INJURED MOTHER

WED 04 NOV 2026 CRIME

Police in Munich are treating the death of a child found at a hotel in the city as a suspected case of attempted murder-suicide. Emergency services were called to the Eden Hotel Wolff on Arnulfstrasse at around 9.40am local time (8.40am GMT) on Wednesday after a hotel employee discovered the child's body, police said. A woman reported to be the child's mother was found seriously injured at the scene. German newspaper Bild reported that investigators suspect the woman, said to be a Ukrainian national, killed her child before attempting to take her own life.

The Eden Hotel Wolff is a four-star property located directly opposite Munich Central Station in the German state of Bavaria. Founded in 1890, the hotel has more than 200 rooms as well as an on-site restaurant and wellness facilities. Police said the employee who discovered the child's body is receiving psychological support from a crisis intervention team. Bild's report that the woman is a Ukrainian national has not been confirmed by police. Neither the woman nor the child has been named by authorities.

Police said they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death and are reviewing CCTV footage recorded at the hotel. Officers have not said what led them to suspect a murder-suicide attempt beyond the woman's injuries and the child's death. The woman's current medical condition has not been disclosed. No timeframe has been given for when the investigation is expected to conclude.
