KAREN DUNBAR CANCELS REMAINING TOUR DATES OVER PAY DISPUTE
Karen Dunbar has cancelled the remaining dates of her Aw Roon the Hooses stand-up tour, claiming her promoter failed to pay her for most of the shows she has already performed. The Chewin' the Fat star announced the decision in a video on social media, saying she had completed 39 shows in two months but had been paid for only five. A further show would have made the total 40 but was cancelled without her being told. "The stress has been unbelievable," she said, apologising to fans who had bought tickets for the 20 shows that will no longer go ahead. She added that ticket holders should be able to get refunds through the promoter or the point of purchase.
The tour began in Giffnock in September and had been due to run until 28 November, ending in Ayr. Dates were scheduled across Scotland, including Aberdeen, Dundee, Dunfermline, Stirling and Dumfries, among other towns and cities. Dunbar, who is from Glasgow, did not publicly name the promoter involved in the dispute. Breakneck Comedy, a comedy company linked to the tour, said it was "disappointed" to learn of the cancellations through social media and had not been contacted directly before her video was published. Breakneck Comedy said it "strongly disputes" her account and is seeking legal advice.
Dunbar said she intends to take the promoter to court over the dispute. She thanked fans for their support, signing off with the message "onward and upward". Shows scheduled in Peebles, Greenock and Shotts will go ahead as planned, as they are run by a different company. Breakneck Comedy's statement did not confirm whether it is the promoter named in Dunbar's complaint.
