FLOYD MAYWEATHER ANNOUNCES DECEMBER BOUT AGAINST MATT FLOYD IN BANGKOK

MON 02 NOV 2026 BOXING

Former five-weight world champion Floyd Mayweather announced on Instagram that he will face Australian boxer Matt Floyd, also called Matty Floyd, in Bangkok on 19 December. Mayweather retired from professional competition after defeating Conor McGregor in 2017 and has fought on the exhibition circuit since. The Thailand bout, billed as the Battle of the Floyds, is his first ring appearance in over two years. Mayweather linked the fight to a planned 2027 clash with WBC welterweight champion Ryan Garcia. On Instagram, Mayweather wrote: "This is a lil tune up before me and Ryan Garcia lock up."

Floyd, nicknamed The Jedi, turned professional at light-heavyweight in 2021 and holds a 15-2 record with ten knockouts. He lost by unanimous decision to fellow Australian Jack Gregory in June 2025 and to former world champion James DeGale at BKFC 81 in September 2025. In June 2026, Floyd defeated Anthony Taylor at Misfits Boxing on the Tommy Fury versus Eddie Hall undercard. Accounts of that win differ, describing it either as a disqualification or as an eye-injury no contest later overturned to a technical knockout. Mayweather's booking follows unfulfilled plans to fight Greek kickboxer Mike Zambidis, Mike Tyson, and Manny Pacquiao, whose Netflix-announced rematch was postponed over Mayweather's legal issues.

Meanwhile, Garcia confirmed talks for Mayweather to challenge for his WBC welterweight title, a belt Mayweather previously held twice. On Saturday, Garcia issued an ultimatum on X urging Mayweather to accept an offer to fight on 6 February 2027. Garcia stated that he will enter the ring on that date with or without Mayweather. Writing on X, Garcia added: "Final warning, no more games, let's make it happen."
