CURRY BARKER RELEASES MAMA BEAR ON YOUTUBE
Curry Barker has released Mama Bear, a five-minute horror short, on YouTube through his That’s A Bad Idea channel with Cooper Tomlinson. Barker announced the film on Instagram ahead of its 29 October release. The story follows Floyd, played by Jon Lee Richardson, as repeated phone calls interrupt his attempt to sleep. Floyd then discovers signs that another version of himself may be nearby.
Joshua Snyder plays Floyd’s double, while Katie Sarife plays Lacey and Ericka Kreuz plays Ms Wilson. Barker brought back two members of the creative team behind his feature film Obsession: Vivian Gray worked as production designer and Blair James oversaw costumes. James said the team shot Mama Bear “three and a half weeks ago” and described the release schedule as a “really quick turnaround”. Barker’s earlier YouTube horror shorts include Heavy Eyes, Enigma, Warnings, The Chair, Milk and Serial.
Box-office figures cited for Obsession put its worldwide takings at $520 million or more, with its production budget estimated at between $600,000 and $750,000. Barker has discussed a possible sequel and an anthology in which each episode follows a different wish. He said he might direct the anthology’s pilot with the same director of photography and invite other filmmakers to make episodes. Barker’s next feature film, Anything But Ghosts, is due for release in May 2027.
