MET OFFICE ISSUES FOG WARNING FOR EAST OF ENGLAND

SAT 31 OCT 2026

The Met Office issued a yellow fog warning for the East of England on 30 October, saying travel could face disruption during the morning rush hour. It issued the warning at 04:18, with the alert due to remain in place until 10:00 GMT. The Met Office said fog could reduce visibility to below 100 metres in places. It expected the fog to thin and clear later in the morning, though some rural areas of eastern England could remain affected into the afternoon.

The warning covered parts of Essex, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Norfolk, Northamptonshire and Suffolk, as well as Peterborough. It also extended into parts of the East Midlands, London, the South East and the West Midlands. The Met Office said road journeys could take longer and bus and train services could face delays. It said fog could also delay or cancel flights and affect ferry services.

The Met Office advised drivers to check road conditions and allow extra time before travelling. It urged them to check that their fog lights worked and to consider changing their plans if conditions required it. Passengers should check updates from their transport providers before setting off, it said. The Met Office assessed the likelihood of the warning’s conditions at above 75 per cent and their potential impact as moderate. It advised people to keep checking the forecast because weather warnings can change.
