COURT JAILS HAI NGUYEN AFTER 100MPH MOTORWAY CHASE
Chester Crown Court jailed Hai Nguyen for 12 months after he drove an uninsured Audi at speeds of up to 100mph during a police pursuit across the M6 and M56 in Cheshire. The court also banned him from driving for two years and three months on Monday, 26 October. Nguyen, of no fixed abode, had pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and driving without insurance. Officers had spotted the black Audi A6 S-Line travelling northbound on the M6 at about 11.30pm on 20 July. They tried to direct Nguyen into Knutsford Services, but he did not stop.
Officers made a second attempt to direct the Audi off the motorway at junction 19, and Nguyen continued driving. Police then activated their emergency equipment as he drove onto the westbound M56, at one point using the hard shoulder, the court heard. Nguyen left the motorway at junction 10 and lost control at a roundabout. Footage shows the Audi flipping onto its roof before landing back on its wheels. Nguyen, the car’s only occupant, tried to climb through the driver’s window to flee, but officers detained him.
PC Payne said Nguyen’s driving “put other members of the public at risk”. Payne said the roads were quiet at the time and no other motorists were injured when Nguyen lost control. Payne also said Nguyen tried to leave the car after the collision. The sentence followed Nguyen’s guilty pleas to both driving offences. His driving ban will run for two years and three months.
