CLEVELAND BROWNS ACTIVATE DILLON GABRIEL FROM INJURED RESERVE
The Cleveland Browns activated quarterback Dillon Gabriel from injured reserve on 26 October, the club announced. His return gives Cleveland four quarterbacks on its 53-man active roster. The Browns waived tight end Carsen Ryan to make room for Gabriel. Ryan appeared in six games and spent almost all of his playing time on special teams. Gabriel had been on injured reserve since before the season because of a back injury.
The Browns had marked Gabriel as “designated to return”, allowing him to resume practice on 6 October. Cleveland activated him one day before his 21-day practice window closed. Had the club missed that deadline, Gabriel would have remained on injured reserve for the rest of the season. Gabriel, a third-round pick from Oregon in the 2025 draft, won one of his six starts as a rookie. His recorded rookie figures list 110 completions from 185 attempts, seven touchdown passes and two interceptions.
Gabriel joins Deshaun Watson, Shedeur Sanders and rookie Taylen Green on Cleveland’s roster. Head coach Todd Monken said before the move was announced that the club had not made a decision on Gabriel. Monken also said he was comfortable carrying four quarterbacks. Cleveland next plays the Pittsburgh Steelers in Pittsburgh on 1 November; both teams have recorded five wins and two defeats this season. The Browns beat the Steelers on 1 October after Andre Szmyt kicked a 56-yard field goal with 10 seconds remaining to break a 24-24 tie.
