CHARLI XCX JOINS MARTIN SCORSESE FILM
Charli XCX is set to appear in Martin Scorsese’s What Happens At Night alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence. Her role in the gothic psychological drama has been described as a cameo. Charli XCX’s representatives declined a request for comment on the casting. The film follows a married American couple who travel to a small, snowy European town to adopt a baby. Its official description says: “As they struggle to claim their baby, they seem to know less about themselves.”
What Happens At Night follows Scorsese’s 2023 film Killers Of The Flower Moon. Charli XCX played a fictional version of herself in the mockumentary The Moment earlier this year. She also had a supporting role in the fantasy drama 100 Nights Of Hero. Her other acting credits include the romantic drama Erupcja and Olivia Wilde’s I Want Your Sex. Discussing Erupcja earlier this year, she called her move into acting “inherently cringe” and said she was new to it.
Charli XCX has also been confirmed for the heist thriller The Gallerist alongside Natalie Portman. She said she wanted to learn on set and offer suggestions only when she felt they would add to a discussion. In September, director M. Night Shyamalan called her a “true artist” after attending the opening night of her Music, Fashion, Film tour. Shyamalan described her as a cinephile and said they could “chat forever”. Charli XCX has described Scorsese’s knowledge of film as “just encyclopedic” and his film restoration work as “very inspiring”.
