SELENA GOMEZ SAYS VAPING NICOTINE CHANGED HER VOICE
Selena Gomez said vaping nicotine had changed her voice in an Instagram video on Sunday. The singer and actress said she had vaped heavily and did not expect her voice to return to how it sounded before. “I vaped nicotine a lot,” she told followers. Gomez urged people considering vaping to avoid it, saying: “Nicotine is so hard to quit.” She also said she understood if people disliked the sound of her voice and chose not to listen.
Gomez has lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease, and has previously suggested it affected her voice. During an Instagram question-and-answer session last December, she said: “My throat kind of swells inside sometimes.” Lupus flare-ups can cause inflammation around the larynx, which can make a voice sound raspy or strained. Her voice has also deepened with age. Some fans have posted YouTube compilations tracking changes in the way she speaks.
Gomez said she had recently stopped using nicotine and hoped to continue without it. “I am really excited because I stopped and I just hope I can keep it up,” she said. She encouraged others who were trying to quit, while acknowledging that she found it difficult. The NHS advises children and non-smokers against taking up vaping and says nicotine is highly addictive. Doctors have linked vaping to breathing problems and other symptoms, while its long-term effects remain unclear.
