DOJA CAT CHANGES HIT LYRIC TO BLUE AT DALLAS CONCERT

FRI 06 NOV 2026

Doja Cat altered a line in Paint the Town Red at a concert in Dallas on Wednesday, 4 November. She performed at the American Airlines Centre during the Dallas stop of her Tour Ma Vie World Tour. In place of the original refrain, she sang: 'I don't care, I paint the town blue!' The song as released uses red in that line. She made the change one day after Texas held its midterm elections. Paint the Town Red is one of Doja Cat's best-known songs.

Democrats entered election night holding 62 seats in the 150-member Texas House of Representatives. They needed to gain 14 seats to secure a majority. By Wednesday afternoon, results pointed towards 83 seats for Democrats and 67 for Republicans. That projection would end Republican control of the lower chamber, in place since 2003. Some races remained subject to final counts and possible recounts. Republicans retained the state Senate.

Democrat Gina Hinojosa headed for the governorship after she defeated incumbent Greg Abbott. Vikki Goodwin defeated Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick. In US politics, blue is the colour associated with the Democratic Party and red the colour associated with the Republican Party. The Kittens Room shared footage of the lyric change on X. The clip circulated online on 5 November. The account described the altered line as a celebration of the Democratic gains, and the post had attracted 2.4 million views at the time that figure was recorded.
