The Boston Celtics beat the Milwaukee Bucks 109-102 at TD Garden on Wednesday night, taking their record to 6-2 this season. Jayson Tatum did not play, having been given the night off, and Derrick White took on the leading role in his absence. White scored seven of Boston's final 10 points down the stretch as the Celtics held off a late Milwaukee rally. He finished with 24 points and a game-leading seven assists, with 11 of his points coming in the fourth quarter. Paul George top-scored for Boston with 25 points, adding five assists and four steals.

Milwaukee had trailed by 22 points before rallying to level the score at 97-97 in the fourth quarter. Neemias Queta put Boston ahead for good with a driving layup set up by George. Moments later, a missed jumper from White sparked a scramble for the rebound between Queta and Milwaukee's Myles Turner. The loose ball reached Baylor Scheierman along the baseline, who fed a cutting White for an and-one layup. White then added a driving floater before George hit a step-back three-pointer. White sealed the win with two free throws, completing a seven-for-seven showing from the line in the fourth quarter that matched his career high for makes in a quarter.

Milwaukee finished with 102 points but could not complete the comeback. Queta added nine points, 12 rebounds and two blocks in the win. George's four steals came alongside three rebounds in his all-round performance. White also recorded four rebounds and two blocks to go with his scoring and assists. The result kept Boston among the strongest early performers in the Eastern Conference this season.
