CLAIRE CHADWICK DIES IN NIGERIA ALONGSIDE UNBORN BABY DAUGHTER
Claire Chadwick, who was 37 weeks pregnant, has died suddenly in Nigeria, along with her unborn baby daughter, her family has said. Her sister, Shannon, announced the deaths in a statement posted alongside a fundraising appeal set up to bring Claire's body back to the UK. Shannon said: "It is with a heavy heart that our family shares the sudden passing of our sister Claire. She was 37 weeks pregnant, and tragically, we lost her precious baby girl as well." The family said Claire had spent her recent years living in Nigeria before her death. They said their priority now is returning her to Newport, South Wales, so she can be laid to rest with her family.
The family has launched a GoFundMe page with a target of £10,000 to cover the cost of repatriating Claire's body and associated legal fees. Shannon described the logistical and legal steps required for an international repatriation as "unexpected and difficult to manage." She said the response to the appeal had been "overwhelming," adding that their community "always comes together in times of hardship." Friends and acquaintances have also left tributes online, describing Claire as kind, caring and someone who made people laugh.
Shannon said timing is critical to the family's efforts to bring Claire home, urging supporters to continue sharing the fundraising page. She wrote: "Timing is crucial with this situation, so the more we share now the better chance we have of bringing Claire home to get the send-off she deserves." The family has not given a timeframe for when repatriation might be completed. The appeal remains active as the family continues seeking donations toward the £10,000 target.
