BALTIMORE RAVENS' LAMAR JACKSON NEEDS THUMB SURGERY
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson faces surgery after injuring his thumb in the team's Week 8 defeat to the Buffalo Bills. He was hurt on his first offensive play, in his first game back after missing three matches with an ankle injury. Backup Tyler Huntley also left the game with a turf toe injury that will keep him out of the Ravens' Week 9 meeting with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Rookie Joe Fagnano replaced them, completing 10 of 21 passes for 91 yards with an interception, before he too suffered an ankle injury.
Ravens head coach Jesse Minter said Jackson's injury could keep him out for the rest of the season, with the quarterback set to miss at least four games while he recovers. A move to injured reserve remains possible. Miami Dolphins running back De'Von Achane's season ended after he suffered a torn ACL in a Week 3 defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs. New England Patriots wide receiver Romeo Doubs was placed on injured reserve with a shoulder injury sustained in Week 6 and will miss at least four games.
The Ravens and Jaguars play on Thursday night, giving both sides a shortened preparation week. Patriots wide receiver A.J. Brown was ruled out of the Week 8 game against the Dolphins with an ankle injury after being downgraded during practice. Arizona Cardinals running back Jeremiyah Love is expected to miss several weeks with his own injury. New York Jets running back Breece Hall could return to the field in Week 9 after his absence. Updated practice reports will clarify which players are available before Sunday's games.
