MANCHESTER UNITED BEAT ROMA 3-2 FROM TWO GOALS DOWN

WED 04 NOV 2026 FOOTBALL

Manchester United came from two goals down to beat Roma 3-2 at Old Trafford in the Champions League. Matías Soulé put Roma ahead in the 11th minute and Donyell Malen added a second from the penalty spot seven minutes later. Bruno Fernandes brought United back into the contest with a penalty before the hour mark. Matheus Cunha then scored twice in the closing stages, in the 83rd and 86th minutes, to put United 3-2 ahead. Cunha was shown a red card in stoppage time, and United finished the match with ten men but held on for victory.

Diogo Dalot said United's situation in the competition gave them little to lose going into the match. "I mean, I think obviously, if you analyse it really cold, we had nothing more to lose," Dalot told journalists. He said United won early duels and that the crowd's energy made it difficult for Roma to create chances. Dalot added that the dressing-room message at half-time was that the team had been getting disappointed too quickly and letting moments in the game affect them. He said the introduction of Shea Lacey with 15 minutes remaining gave United a further boost.

Dalot said the change in intensity after half-time was matched by a response from the crowd, which he described as important to the team's performance. He said learning to play with that attitude and belief, even when not scoring or when conceding chances, was the main lesson United needed to take from the match. Fernandes scored once from the penalty spot before Cunha's double completed the turnaround. Roma had led by two goals following their quick start in the opening 20 minutes.
