BAYERN MUNICH BEAT ATLETICO MADRID 2-0 IN CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
Bayern Munich won 2-0 away at Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday, with Lennart Karl and Konrad Laimer scoring at the Estadio Metropolitano. The result keeps Bayern unbeaten this season under interim head coach Aaron Dank. Karl broke the deadlock in the 54th minute, capitalising on a mistake by defender Robin Le Normand before chipping the ball over goalkeeper Jan Oblak. Laimer doubled Bayern's lead with a shot into the roof of the net, finishing a pass from Harry Kane.
Bayern arrived in Madrid under pressure following a run of setbacks, including the death of Joshua Kimmich's father, the collapse of coach Vincent Kompany, and an injury crisis in attack. Bayern had also dropped points against FC Augsburg and Viking Stavanger before conceding a late equaliser against Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga. Kane, playing his first European match since winning the Ballon d'Or, missed the chance to match Cristiano Ronaldo's record of scoring in 11 consecutive Champions League appearances, having scored in his previous 10. Oblak saved a deflected effort from Dayot Upamecano that struck the crossbar, while Neuer made only one save as Atletico Madrid struggled to create clear chances.
Sporting director Max Eberl called it "simply a world-class performance", saying Bayern had "done almost everything right from the first minute to the last". Captain Manuel Neuer, back after injury, described "total dominance from the first minute to the 93rd", adding: "Whatever Atletico put in front of us, we always had an answer." Karl had faced criticism in recent weeks over his use of social media. Bayern face Lille in the Champions League on 25 November, while Atletico Madrid play Viking the same day.
