WED 04 NOV 2026

A 12-year-old girl died after being hit by a bus in Kilwinning, Ayrshire, during her school lunch break on Tuesday. Police Scotland said it received a report of a crash involving a 12-year-old female pedestrian and a bus on Lauchlan Way at around 1.10pm on 3 November 2026. Emergency services attended the scene, but the girl was pronounced dead there. Police Scotland said her family has been made aware. The force said there were no reports of any other injuries and that enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the crash.

A parent from Kilwinning Academy said their son had been heading for lunch from school when he heard the crash happen. "He heard screams. I think everyone standing nearby got a fright and was left traumatised. It's just terrible," the parent said. The collision happened on Lauchlan Way, close to the school. Police have not released further detail on the bus involved or the events leading up to the crash.

Police Scotland has appealed for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward. Sergeant Stewart Taylor said: "Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the girl who died at what is an extremely difficult time for them." He asked that anyone with information contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting reference 1484 of Tuesday, 3 November 2026. No further details on the investigation's progress have been released.
