NICOLAS CAGE LIVES IN HOTELS AFTER SINKHOLE DAMAGES MALIBU HOME
Nicolas Cage has said he is living in hotels after a sinkhole damaged the driveway of his Malibu home, valued at $10.5 million (£8 million). The hole opened in September amid coastal erosion, spreading from the side of the four-storey oceanfront property towards the front door. Cage addressed the situation at Los Angeles Comic Con on 31 October, after being asked about his Halloween plans. "I'm currently a little bit homeless," he told the audience. "Something happened to my house in Malibu, so I'm just sort of living in hotels," he said.
The sinkhole grew from about 30 square feet to swallow a fence, ladders and portable toilets used by construction workers, according to Page Six. A water line and a gas line beneath the property were broken, and the Southern California Gas Company shut off supply to the site. Cage bought the property in 2024 and has filed three permits with city officials to fight the damage. He was granted an emergency permit to pack sandbags along the property for wave protection, and further permits were approved for debris removal and soil sampling ahead of shoring work.
Cage said he still planned to take his daughter, August, trick-or-treating in Santa Monica before watching Stanley Kubrick's The Shining once she was in bed. Estimates of his wealth vary: Celebrity Net Worth put his fortune at $30 million (£23 million) in September 2026, while Parade estimated it at $40 million (£30 million) in May 2026. Neither figure is a confirmed statement of his finances. Cage won an Academy Award for Leaving Las Vegas and has starred in films including The Rock, Con Air, Face/Off, National Treasure and Ghost Rider.
