ALTON TOWERS CLOSES WORLD OF DAVID WALLIAMS ATTRACTION

TUE 03 NOV 2026

Alton Towers has permanently closed its World of David Walliams attraction with immediate effect, Merlin Entertainments said in a statement. The Staffordshire park said the closure follows "a regular review of rides and attractions" as the 2026 season comes to an end. Merlin Entertainments said: "As we are no longer in the main season, guests are encouraged to check the Alton Towers Resort website and app for the latest attraction opening information ahead of their visit." The attraction had operated at the resort since 2021.

The zone was themed around Walliams' children's books and included several rides, among them Gangsta Granny: The Ride, a 360-degree special effects attraction, Raj's Bouncy Bottom Burp, the Royal Carousel and Flavio's Fabulous Fandango. Alton Towers has not said what, if anything, will replace the area, adding only that details will be announced at a later date. Walliams is an award-winning children's author whose books have sold more than 60 million copies worldwide. He is also known for television comedy, including Little Britain, which he made with Matt Lucas, and Come Fly With Me.

Walliams' ties to children's publishing and events have narrowed over the past year. HarperCollins said last year it would not release any further titles from him, following "careful consideration." The publisher added in its statement: "HarperCollins takes employee wellbeing extremely seriously and has processes in place for reporting and investigating concerns." Walliams was also removed from the Waterstones Children's Book Festival line-up last year.
