NEW ZEALAND RUGBY SECURITY CHIEF LOGAN CADWALLADER DIES IN EDINBURGH
Logan Cadwallader, New Zealand Rugby's head of security for a decade, died after suffering a "medical event" at the All Blacks' hotel in Edinburgh on Sunday morning. The squad is staying at the Radisson Blu ahead of this weekend's Nations Championship match against Scotland at Murrayfield. New Zealand Rugby confirmed the death in a statement, describing Cadwallader as "a much-loved and respected member of the All Blacks group." Head coach Dave Rennie said Cadwallader "has been a big part of the All Blacks family for a long time" and was "the ultimate team man, loved and trusted by all." Rennie added that Cadwallader "looked after all of us, players and staff, and was a good mate to many."
Rennie said the squad was "devastated" by Cadwallader's death. He added that the team's thoughts were with Cadwallader's wife, Nannette, children Trey, Brooke and Mia, and wider family and friends. "As a team, we will honour Logan and the legacy he has left on the All Blacks," Rennie said. Before his decade in the role, Cadwallader served in the New Zealand army and the New Zealand Special Air Service Regiment, deployed to some of the world's most demanding environments.
Chief executive Steve Lancaster said Cadwallader had been "a valued and trusted member of the management group over the past decade." He said Cadwallader would be missed by colleagues and extended "deepest sympathies" to his family and friends on behalf of New Zealand Rugby. Tributes to Cadwallader were shared on social media by current All Blacks players, including Will Jordan and Jordie Barrett. New Zealand are due to face Scotland at Murrayfield this weekend, the 34th meeting between the two nations since 1905.
