CD Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel has died after a collision with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono during a Segunda División match in Tenerife. The collision occurred in the closing stages of Monday's fixture at the Estadio Heliodoro Rodríguez López, with the score level at 2-2. De Miguel was chasing a long ball when Owono rushed from his goal, striking the striker high on the chest with his knee. De Miguel collapsed and lay motionless on the pitch as players from both sides called for medical help. The referee abandoned the match before full time, and Owono was shown a straight red card. CD Tenerife confirmed De Miguel's death on Tuesday morning.

Medical staff treated De Miguel on the pitch before he was taken to hospital by ambulance. CD Tenerife said he suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest and was resuscitated by emergency personnel, then admitted to intensive care at the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria. The club initially described his condition as stable, but reported in the early hours of Tuesday that it had worsened. CD Tenerife announced his death several hours later.

FC Andorra posted a statement on X, writing: "With broken hearts and devastated, we want to send our most sincere condolences to the family of Jesús de Miguel, to all his teammates, friends, and to CD Tenerife. Rest in peace." CD Tenerife said in its own statement that it was extending its support to De Miguel's family, friends and everyone connected with the club. Barcelona and Real Madrid also issued statements paying tribute to De Miguel. His death has drawn condolence messages from clubs across Spanish football.
