BODY FOUND IN SEARCH FOR MISSING TEENAGER JAMES CORLETT

SUN 01 NOV 2026

Leicestershire Police found a body during the search for James Corlett, from Swadlincote in Derbyshire, who went missing after a night out in Ashby-de-la-Zouch. He had been in the town on the evening of Thursday 29 October but did not return home, prompting his family to report him missing. Derbyshire Police opened a missing person investigation, which was transferred to Leicestershire Police on Saturday 31 October after information suggested he had remained in the Ashby area. Leicestershire Police said the body was found in Ashby earlier that day. The force said James's family has been told and is being supported by officers. Leicestershire Police described the death as currently unexplained and said further enquiries are continuing.

Leicestershire Police had issued a public appeal for information while James was still listed as missing. Samantha Niblett, the MP for South Derbyshire, wrote on Facebook: "I am so very sad to read an update from James' dad that James is no longer with us." She said she was thinking of James's mother and father, their family and friends "at this sad time of unimaginable pain and loss." Niblett asked that anyone posting online about the family offer only "kind words and consideration, no speculation." She also thanked those who had joined the search for James.

The investigation passed from Derbyshire Police to Leicestershire Police on the same day officers confirmed the discovery in Ashby. Leicestershire Police have not given a cause of death and said no further details would be confirmed while the case remains open. The force has not reported any arrests in connection with the discovery. Enquiries into the circumstances of James's death are continuing, Leicestershire Police said.
