ARMED MEN SHOOT MAC GROUP CHIEF EXECUTIVE AND DAUGHTERS
Three armed men broke into the Toronto home of MAC Group chief executive David Morton and injured four members of his family, police said. The men shot Morton and his daughters, Maggie and Cristina Zohil-Morton, and struck his wife, Doriana Zohil, with a hammer. The attack took place at the family’s Hyde Park Circle home in the early hours of Thursday. Emergency crews took all four to hospital with serious injuries. Police said two sustained life-altering injuries, while the other two sustained severe injuries that were not life-threatening.
Toronto police inspector Kristy Smith said two of the men carried handguns and the third carried a hammer. The men wore masks and hoodies, and one demanded valuables after entering the house, she said. Smith said a struggle followed and “the suspects fired their guns multiple times”. Police said the men left in an SUV after the shooting. Investigators have received CCTV footage from the home, but police have not established whether the men took any property.
Smith said police had no information indicating that the men had specifically targeted the Morton family’s home. Investigators had not established the men’s motive or whether they had looked at other houses in the area, she said. Police could not provide descriptions of the men beyond the clothing they wore during the break-in. “People should be able to feel safe in their homes,” Smith said.
