ASTON VILLA ANNOUNCES LEGAL ACTION AGAINST JAMIE CARRAGHER
Aston Villa said on Friday that it would take legal action against Jamie Carragher over comments about the club and its supporters. Chairman Nassef Sawiris signed the announcement, which the club posted on social media. Villa called Carragher’s remarks “unacceptable insults about the Club and its fans”. The statement did not identify which comments prompted the planned action or give a date for it.
Carragher had discussed Unai Emery as a possible appointment at Manchester United if the club changed manager. Villa supporters challenged his suggestion, and Carragher addressed their objections on Stick to Football. He praised Emery’s work before telling supporters: “So shut the f*** up Villa fans.” Carragher works as a pundit for Sky Sports.
Emery has been at Villa Park since 2022, during a period in which Villa have played in the Champions League in two of the past three seasons and won the Europa League. Villa sold Morgan Rogers to Chelsea for a British record fee this summer, while Emi Martinez also joined Chelsea and Ezri Konsa moved to Arsenal. In its statement, Villa said it would not allow anyone to stop its “ascension in English and European football”. The club gave no further details about the legal action it intends to take.
