ROY KEANE CRITICISES SENNE LAMMENS OVER MANCHESTER UNITED FORM

Roy Keane has criticised Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens after an error in the defeat to Bournemouth. “Going back to Manchester United, the goalkeeper is costing them, isn’t he? He was very good last year,” Keane said. Lammens came out to meet a pass, but Evanilson reached the ball first and scored into an empty net to make it 3-0. Rayan had earlier beaten Lammens at his near post for Bournemouth’s first goal.

Ruben Amorim brought Lammens to Manchester United for a reported £18 million last summer. The Belgian kept eight clean sheets in his first season, according to the tally cited for that campaign, and Manchester United qualified for the Champions League under Michael Carrick. An error by Lammens also contributed to Belgium’s World Cup exit against Spain. This season, Lammens has conceded 13 goals in eight league matches, according to the figures cited for those games. He produced a strong display against Everton during that period.

Paul Scholes has separately questioned whether Lammens can meet the standard Manchester United need to compete for the Premier League title. “What team have you seen win the Premier League without a top-class goalkeeper?” Scholes asked on The Good, The Bad and The Football podcast. He added: “Lammens might be that, I don’t know, I think the jury’s probably still out on that.” Scholes cited Alisson at Liverpool and David Raya at Arsenal while discussing goalkeepers at title contenders.
