HAMILTON CONSIDERS RACING INTO 2030S

FRI 30 OCT 2026 F1/MOTORSPORT

Lewis Hamilton said he could continue racing in Formula 1 into the 2030s, but would not commit to staying that long. Speaking in Mexico City, the seven-time world champion challenged assumptions about how age affects a driver’s reactions. “I feel that I’m built differently,” he said. Hamilton pointed to his start at the United States Grand Prix as evidence that his reactions remain competitive. He said he still loved racing and remained committed for the foreseeable future.

The discussion followed a question about whether Hamilton would race in an African Grand Prix in Rwanda, planned for the early 2030s under a 10-year deal. Hamilton said he could not know whether he would want to keep racing in four years. He also said he could compete with a 20-year-old driver at 41, while leaving open whether he could do so at 44. Hamilton is signed to race for Ferrari in 2027. His plans beyond that season remain uncertain.

Hamilton said he did not want to “overstay my welcome” if he could no longer perform competitively. He lies third in the 2026 drivers’ championship, one point behind George Russell. Hamilton, Russell and Andrea Kimi Antonelli remain mathematically in contention for the title. Antonelli could clinch the championship this weekend. Hamilton said time would tell whether he would still race in the 2030s.
