LAURA JANE FINDS 28 SHEEP DEAD NEAR HOLME MOSS

Laura Jane said she found 28 of her sheep dead in a field near Holme Moss, close to Huddersfield, on Wednesday. She said all the sheep had been alive and appeared healthy the previous day. Some were found dead in water, while others had visible bite marks, according to her account. She said three more sheep at her home were “extremely poorly”. Laura Jane has appealed for information about what happened to the flock.

Laura Jane said vets carried out post-mortem examinations on the dead sheep. She said they found no obvious illness or underlying health problems to explain the deaths. In a social media post, she described signs that some sheep had been grabbed by another animal. She raised the possibility that a dog or dogs had chased and attacked the flock, but did not identify what caused the deaths.

Laura Jane asked anyone who saw dogs running loose, sheep being chased or anything unusual around Holme Moss to contact her. “Someone must know something,” she wrote. She said even a small detail could help her establish what happened. Hundreds of people responded to her post, including some who offered condolences. One respondent said Laura Jane would also have to deal with the aftermath of finding the sheep.
