SERGIO GARCIA LEAVES LIV GOLF AND SEEKS PGA TOUR RETURN

FRI 30 OCT 2026 GOLF

Sergio Garcia confirmed on Thursday that he has left LIV Golf after four years. He said he plans to play on the DP World Tour in 2027. “I’m also keeping my options open for a return to the PGA Tour,” Garcia said in a statement. Garcia left the PGA Tour to join LIV Golf in June 2022.

The PGA Tour measures a player’s one-year suspension from their final LIV Golf event. Garcia last competed in a LIV event in August, which would place his earliest expected return to PGA Tour-sanctioned golf in August 2027 under that policy. His contract with LIV Golf ended on 6 October after his lawyers asked a bankruptcy court to terminate it. LIV Golf filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on 8 September. BC Partners Credit has pledged $300 million towards a rebuilt competition.

Garcia raised the possibility of returning to American golf during the Open de España on 9 October, saying: “It’s definitely a possibility.” The PGA Tour’s Returning Member Programme offered a one-off route back earlier this year, which Brooks Koepka took. On 15 September, Rolapp said the tour was “not currently contemplating a returning-member program”. Without that route, Garcia would need to seek another way to compete on the PGA Tour after his suspension ends.
