EVERTON OMIT JACK GREALISH FROM NEWCASTLE CUP TIE
Everton left Jack Grealish out of their squad for the Carabao Cup fourth-round tie against Newcastle, citing a breach of club discipline. The club announced his omission on X after naming David Moyes’s team for the match at Hill Dickinson Stadium. Everton said: “Jarrad Branthwaite remains sidelined for a second successive game due to concussion protocols, while Jack Grealish is unavailable for selection due to a breach of club discipline.” Grealish is understood to have missed training on Monday without permission.
Grealish returned to training at Everton’s Finch Farm complex after his absence on Monday. He had missed Everton’s defeat at Arsenal on Saturday because of illness. Before that match, the England player had started four successive games for Moyes’s side. Grealish joined Everton on a season-long loan from Manchester City this summer after spending last season at the club.
Everton paid £12m in total for Grealish’s loan last season. The club is paying a similar sum for the current campaign. Grealish’s contract with Manchester City expires at the end of this season, when he will become a free agent. He is expected to receive a fine for his unauthorised absence from training.
