JENNIFER LAWRENCE CHALLENGES UNAPPROVED CREW ACCESS DURING NUDE SCENE
Jennifer Lawrence said crew members who lacked approval were present on a film set while she filmed a nude scene. Speaking on the Call Her Daddy podcast, she said she challenged their presence: “I came down hard on it.” Lawrence did not identify the production or say when the incident took place. She said her experience in the industry had made her more willing to speak up about conditions on set.
Lawrence said actors need to adapt to directors’ requirements, including physical changes for a role. “You have to be malleable. That's part of the job,” she said. She cited changes to her hair colour and style for Lynne Ramsay’s film Die My Love, which also stars Robert Pattinson. Lawrence discussed the crew incident while answering a question about whether she had become more comfortable advocating for herself during her career.
Lawrence said she raised the issue partly because a less established performer might fear being labelled difficult for objecting. “If we are not setting that principle, then what on earth is going to happen to an 18-year-old unknown when she shows up and there are people on set who are not approved to be there?” she asked. The Hollywood actors’ union SAG-AFTRA requires closed sets for scenes involving nudity or simulated sex under its guidelines. Those guidelines restrict access to people essential to the production.
