DRIVE-BY SHOOTING KILLS WOMAN OUTSIDE QUEENSLAND PUB
Queensland police said Vana-Reese Schuster-Togiatau died on Thursday after masked gunmen shot her outside Fitzy’s Loganholme, a pub south of Brisbane. The gunmen opened fire on a crowd on Saturday night, hitting Schuster-Togiatau in the head and neck. She died at Princess Alexandra Hospital, where she had undergone surgery. Three men were also hospitalised after the shooting. Police have launched a homicide investigation and are searching for those responsible.
The shooting took place at about 8.18pm, when a Mitsubishi pulled up near people gathered in the pub’s passenger drop-off area, according to police. Fitzy’s Loganholme was hosting a boxing event that night. One of the injured men is recovering from surgery, while the other two have left hospital. Schuster-Togiatau was from Jimboomba, in Queensland’s Logan area. Detective Inspector Ian Galpin said police were looking for three men and any accomplices.
Galpin said about 80 officers were working on the investigation. “We will not stop until these people are identified and taken into custody,” he said. Police are examining possible gang involvement, but Galpin said investigators were keeping an open mind. He urged anyone who knew who carried out the shooting or why it happened to come forward. Schuster-Togiatau’s family has asked for privacy, Galpin said.
