CARLOS TEVEZ SAYS FERGUSON BROKE PROMISE BEFORE CITY MOVE
Carlos Tevez has accused Sir Alex Ferguson of breaking a promise about his Manchester United future before his move to Manchester City. Tevez made the claim in an interview on the Rio Ferdinand Presents channel. He said Ferguson assured him during United’s pre-season tour of Los Angeles that the club would make his move permanent. Tevez had joined United on a two-year loan after playing for West Ham.
Tevez recalled Ferguson telling him: “Carlos, now I’m going to pay out your contract and you're going to stay in Manchester”. He said Ferguson repeated the assurance after United signed Dimitar Berbatov. Tevez had helped United win the Premier League and Champions League, but said his role in the team began to diminish. He told Ferdinand he felt he had given his heart to United and had not felt the same commitment in return.
Tevez said Ferguson had six months after their conversation in Los Angeles to fulfil the promise. He accused Ferguson of leaving him on the bench to reduce his value, saying: “He started pushing me aside so he could bring down what I was worth.” Ferdinand said Tevez’s departure affected United’s dressing room. “It killed us, man,” Ferdinand said.
