ALEXANDER BROTHERS RECEIVE 30-YEAR PRISON SENTENCES
A New York federal judge sentenced brothers Tal, Oren and Alon Alexander to 30 years in prison each on Tuesday for sex crimes against women. A jury found the three men guilty in March after a trial in Manhattan. The convictions covered a conspiracy involving rape, sex trafficking, sexual abuse and sexual exploitation. Judge Valerie Caproni told the brothers, “Your conduct was monstrous.” She said their crimes had “wreaked havoc” on the women’s lives.
The court heard from 12 victims before sentencing, including one who had not testified at the trial. Eleven victims had given evidence during the trial. Maya Miller told the court that Tal Alexander raped her in 2014 and that she lost her sense of safety afterwards. “I carry a quiet funeral within me for the person I might've become if this never happened to me,” she said. Another victim, identified by the pseudonym Isa Brooks, said Tal and Alon Alexander raped her and that she subsequently struggled to trust herself.
Several victims asked Caproni to impose life sentences on each brother. Prosecutor Elizabeth Espinosa also sought the maximum punishment, saying the brothers had drawn women in with promises of luxury over many years. Caproni rejected the brothers’ request for the minimum sentence of 15 years and criticised their continued denial of the crimes. The court also heard from a woman who said Tal Alexander threatened her when she planned to come forward, telling her he knew where her sister worked.
