KEVIN MATHURIN REVEALS HEART ATTACK

Kevin Mathurin said he recently suffered a heart attack after a blocked artery damaged part of his heart. The Emmerdale actor disclosed the diagnosis on Instagram and said he had felt pain in his ribs and arms throughout the preceding week. Mathurin said he continued filming, exercising and travelling to see his family while experiencing the pain. He said his doctor instructed him to go to A&E after he returned home from hospital.

“I was under a lot of stress and pressure,” Mathurin wrote. He said he had felt anxious and angry and had kept those feelings to himself. Mathurin said a close friend had died of cancer and work commitments had prevented him from attending the funeral. He said Nikki urged him to book an ECG scan before his doctor called. Mathurin has played Charles Anderson in the ITV soap since 2020.

Mathurin said the artery damage had made his heartbeat abnormal and caused heart failure. Staff at King's Hospital in London monitored him and carried out an angiogram to assess the blockages, he said. Mathurin said he and his family were frightened that he had not paid attention to his symptoms for a week. He said his time in hospital prompted him to take stock and that he now wants to spend more time with his wife and family.
