EMILY OSMENT REQUESTS INTIMACY COORDINATOR FOR YOUNG SHELDON SCENES

Emily Osment said she asked for an intimacy coordinator while filming romantic scenes with Montana Jordan for the CBS comedy Young Sheldon. Osment told author Jessica Radloff in an oral history of the series that she was 30 when she began working with Jordan, who was 18. “That made me uncomfortable. He was a baby. A baby with a mullet,” she said. Osment said she raised the issue with producer Tim Marx after learning Jordan’s age, as the relationship between their characters became more physical.

According to the book, the production could not arrange a coordinator at short notice for the first episode but brought one in for subsequent instalments. Osment said the programme included no sex scenes and that having a coordinator present “made everything easier”. She said Jordan might not have known he could request the same support and wanted him to have that option. Osment played Mandy McAllister opposite Jordan’s Georgie Cooper.

Director Alex Reid said the team had “totally dropped the ball” by failing to arrange a coordinator from the outset. Writer Connor Kilpatrick said producers assumed the actors needed no additional guidance because Jordan had filmed kissing scenes with Isabel May and Osment had more experience. Co-creator Steve Molaro said Osment had “every right to ask” and later felt comfortable working without a coordinator as the actors got to know each other. CBS greenlit Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, a spin-off starring Osment and Jordan, in January 2024.
