CLIMATE ANALYTICS CALLS FOR GLOBAL FOSSIL FUEL USE TO HALVE BY 2035

TUE 16 JUN 2026 CLIMATE

Climate Analytics has published a report setting out measures required to keep global warming below 1.5°C by the end of the century. The organisation states that global fossil fuel use must be cut in half by 2035 to avoid what it characterises as catastrophic climate damage. The report examines the pathway needed to meet this temperature threshold. The findings represent Climate Analytics' assessment of necessary climate action over the coming decade.

The 1.5°C target originates from the Paris Agreement, an international framework adopted by nations to limit temperature rise. Climate Analytics analysed the emissions reductions and energy transition requirements needed to achieve this objective. The report identifies fossil fuel consumption as a critical focus area for global climate policy. Halving usage within the specified timeframe would represent a significant acceleration of current renewable energy deployment and efficiency improvements across all economic sectors.

The report's conclusions will inform ongoing international climate negotiations and national policy frameworks. Governments and organisations use such assessments from scientific bodies to guide climate commitments and investment decisions. The findings add to existing scientific literature on decarbonisation pathways and climate mitigation strategies. Implementation of the measures outlined would require coordinated action across energy production, transportation, manufacturing and other major carbon-emitting sectors globally.
