RETIRED COUPLE WIN £3.3M PAYOUT OVER TUDOR HOME FLOOD DAMAGE

TUE 16 JUN 2026

A retired couple have won a £3.3million payout following flood damage to their Tudor home caused by the Environment Agency. The property, valued at £2million, sustained significant damage to its garden and swimming pool. The historic riverside residence once accommodated Henry VIII.

The Environment Agency's actions resulted in the flooding that destroyed features of the couple's estate. The payout represents compensation for the losses incurred as a result of the flooding event. The couple, both retired historians, pursued legal action to recover damages from the incident.

The settlement concludes the dispute between the retired couple and the Environment Agency over responsibility for the flood damage. The resolution establishes a financial outcome for the destruction of the property's grounds and amenities. No further legal proceedings have been confirmed in relation to this matter.
