PETER SERAFINOWICZ CAST AS PEEVES IN HBO HARRY POTTER SERIES
Peter Serafinowicz has been cast as Peeves the Poltergeist in HBO's forthcoming Harry Potter television series. The character was omitted from the original film adaptations despite being present in J.K. Rowling's source material. Rik Mayall originally portrayed Peeves for the films, but his scenes were removed due to time constraints. The casting represents the first confirmation of Serafinowicz joining the production.
The HBO series aims to adapt all seven of Rowling's novels across a decade-long run. The cast includes Domnic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout in the leading roles, alongside John Lithgow, Janet McTeer, Paapa Essiedu and Nick Frost in significant supporting parts. Gracie Cochrane, who was set to play Ginny Weasley, departed the production after season one owing to unforeseen circumstances, necessitating a recast for subsequent seasons. The series received renewal for a second season in May.
The first season, adapting Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, will premiere on Christmas Day on HBO Max. The production marks a substantial departure from the original films' approach to the source material, restoring elements previously cut for theatrical release. HBO's multi-season commitment allows for more comprehensive adaptation of Rowling's narratives. The series signals the studio's intention to explore character arcs and storylines unavailable in the cinematic versions.
