ROD STEWART CANCELS CONCERT, APPEARS AT WORLD CUP NEXT DAY

Rod Stewart cancelled a concert at North Island Credit Union Amphitheater in Chula Vista, California on Friday, citing medical advice following a diagnosis of acute upper respiratory infection and laryngitis. A statement posted on his official Instagram account confirmed he had travelled to the venue and attempted to perform before withdrawing on the advice of his doctors. The following day, Stewart posted an Instagram video showing him and his two sons aboard a private jet travelling to Boston to watch Switzerland play Qatar in the FIFA World Cup's first group stage.

The cancellation prompted significant criticism from concert attendees on social media. Multiple fans expressed frustration at the apparent contradiction between Stewart's stated health condition and his ability to travel across the country for the football match. Several commenters noted they had made considerable personal arrangements and travelled long distances to attend the concert, with some referencing previous occasions they had seen Stewart perform.

The backlash centred on the timing and optics of Stewart's World Cup attendance relative to his withdrawal from the paid performance. Fans questioned the consistency of his health status across the two events occurring within twenty-four hours. Stewart's Instagram caption accompanying the video stated "Me and the boys off to Boston to see our Scotland in the World Cup" followed by "No Scotland no party."
