OHTANI LEADS ALL-STAR VOTING WITH 1.16 MILLION VOTES
Major League Baseball released its first update on All-Star voting on Monday, with Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers receiving 1,165,133 votes to lead the National League designated hitter ballot. Ohtani and Houston Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez are the only two players to have exceeded 1 million votes in Phase 1 of the fan voting process. Alvarez garnered 1,015,768 votes to lead the American League designated hitter category. The top vote getter in each league will earn a starting spot on their respective All-Star teams.
Phase 2 voting will commence on 29 June and will determine the remaining starters at each position. In the American League, Bobby Witt Jr. of the Royals leads shortstop voting with 890,575 votes, whilst Ernie Clement of the Blue Jays leads second base with 904,702 votes. Aaron Judge of the Yankees leads outfield voting with 977,460 votes, with Mike Trout of the Angels in second place with 926,601 votes. The voting standings across all positions were released by MLB on Monday.
Pitchers and backup position players will not be determined by fan ballot. Instead, these selections will be made through a player ballot and the commissioner's office. Ohtani is currently an MVP and Cy Young Award candidate during the 2026 season.
